Born 1950. Graduate the Faculty of History of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (1972). Post-graduate at M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University (1972-1975). Defend candidate dissertation entitled "Georgia and East Europe in the 11^th-12^th centuries" (1978). PhD dissertation entitled "Foreign Political Situation in medieval Georgia in the 70-ies of the 10^th century and 80-ies of the 11^th century" at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (1991).

Published about 130 scholarly works, including 11 monographs and a book.

Major research interests: foreign relations of medieval Georgia, history of Abkhazia.
